OUR alignment & Suspension Services

LET US HELP YOU STEER IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

glastonbury, ct ALIGNMENT & SUSPENSION SERVICES

Your vehicle suspension absorbs impacts from obscure bumps in the road to help your vehicle stay in its trajectory. It is necessary that your vehicles suspension is properly maintained to give you the best ride possible.

Without a suspension, your car would receive the impact of every bump on the road, making it unstable and difficult to drive. If your vehicles suspension isn't maintained, misalignments to your vehicles steering can occur. Forcing you to hold your steering wheel in an irregular position to have it go straight.

Don't wait any longer and let Century Auto Service give you and your vehicle a ride that is not only safe but also comfortable and enjoyable.

Great local specialty automotive shop, the guys have a high level of knowledge for foreign automobiles and have done beautiful work for me several times. Reasonable money for honest, high quality work. I trust them with my vehicles and you should too. If you have a car you care about I would have these guys servicing it. Don't make the mistake of taking your specialty automobile anywhere else.

The only place that touches my Audi. Vinny and the staff are awesome. Very honest and reasonable people. As long as I own a German vehicle, they will always be my spot for maintenance and other procedures. I highly recommend!

Vinny and crew are the best. Great service and honest pricing, never an upsell, if he says you need the work done you need the work done. He did work on my Ford Five Hundred, $200 for labor and parts....Ford Dealer in Berlin CT gave me quote for over $1,500 to do what Vinny did plus all the other upsell repairs that they said was needed.

What are the Symptoms Of A NEEDED Suspension repair?

As we've seen, your car's suspension is a complex setup of several moving parts that respond to changes on the road, your vehicle's speed, and your steering.

Though your suspension is designed to withstand all those variations, in time, they take a toll on your system, which causes wheel unbalance and misalignment.

Unbalance and misalignment make your car suspension less capable of responding to the road's changes and keeping the tires stuck to the ground, which causes several problems:

  • Reduces your car's stability and handling
  • Makes your vehicle spend more gas
  • Reduces your car's acceleration and top speed
  • Increases tire wear, which reduces their lifespan
  • Augments the stress on your suspension system

All these issues compromise your safety and hurt your driving experience. So, our expert recommendation is to do an alignment and balancing service every six months and whenever you change your tires. Our expert recommendation is to check your struts every 50k miles and replace them if necessary.

What Parts of My Suspension may need repair?

A Full Vehicle Engine Inspection

There are several types of suspension systems (and every manufacturer has its design), but the essential elements are similar to all of them:

Elastic Components:

Elastic elements absorb the energy of the shocks produced while driving. Depending on the suspension type, they can be springs, leaves (a group of concave steel plaques sandwiched together), torsion bars, or air chambers.

Dampers:

Dampers take the energy absorbed by the elastic elements and transform it into heat. This heat is stored in the oily fluid inside the damper and released slowly into the environment.

Struts:

The "struts" are the compound setups of springs and dampers that, in the most common suspension systems, work in tandem to absorb and dissipate the impacts of the road on your car.

Structural Components:

Structural elements connect the wheel mounting to the suspension system. They also link the left and right wheels on dependent suspension types.

Frame:

The frame or chassis is the 'skeleton' of the car. It connects to the suspension system so the latter can carry its weight and insulate it from the road's impacts.

What Are Wheel Alignment and Tire Balancing?

Wheel Alignment

This service looks for misalignment or improper inclination of your tires. It detects possible problems with three measures of alignment: camber, caster, and toe.

Camber:

The wheel's angle of inclination with respect to the ground, looking at the wheel from the front of the car. Depending on your car model, your tires should align vertically to the floor, or they might have a slight angle inclination.

Caster:

The inclination of the steering axis of the wheel. In simple terms, the caster comes from comparing a vertical line in the middle of the wheel looked from the side with the wheel's angle of rotation when you steer.

Toe:

As its name says, it's the "toe-like" inclination of the wheel. If you look at the wheel from above, toe-in occurs when the tire points inward (inside the car), and toe-out is when it points outward (out of the vehicle).

Tire Balancing

On the other hand, balancing redistributes your tires' weight evenly along the tire. It does so by attaching weights to different parts of the tires and gyrating them at high speeds.
